Chemical Manipulation is a book detailing the author's knowledge of Chemistry, covering much of the same material as the lectures Faraday composed as a member of the Royal Institution, a British organization dedicated to scientific discovery. Although this volume does not put forward any new theories in the field, it contains a comprehensive description of many experimental laboratory procedures, drawn from the author's own practices, and inspired many subsequent pieces of writing on the same subject. Notably, despite his lack of formal education, Faraday had an enormous impact on both physics and chemistry. His discoveries in physics formed the basis for the modern understanding of electromagnetic fields, and his work as a chemist resulted in the discovery of the chemical compound Benzene, a main component in petroleum-based fuel, among other accomplishments. |
