Eventually five volumes of Kosmos were published, being von Humboldt's presentation of the geographical research carried out during his travels to the Americas and Asia (there is a Wikipedia article 'Cosmos (Humboldt book)' ). The vols. I and II offered here were published in German in 1845-47, based on lectures delivered to the University of Berlin in 1827-28; they are Henry G. Bohn's first English edition (translated by E.C.Otte) published in 1848-49. At the back of vol. I there is an extensive catalogue (40pp) of Bohn's books. The only illustration is a steel-engraved frontispiece portrait of the author (protected by a flimsy) in volume I. |
